Ohio Holstein Holds their Spring Sale

Beautiful sunshine, a crowd of Holstein enthusiasts, and an outstanding group of sale consignments combined to make it a good day for the Ohio Holstein Spring Sale held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, Wooster, Ohio. An average of $2475 was achieved on 74 full lots, all ages.

     Bringing the top price of $6000, as she paraded the sale ring in perfect show style, was Lot # 1 Pintail-Point B Ronda, a five year old that had placed third in her class at the recent Spring Dairy Expo. Classified Excellent 92, she is a daughter of Emerald-ACR-SA T-Baxter and from seven generations of Excellent dams that includes the legendary Roxy. Richman Farms, Lodi, Ohio were the buyers and W-W Associates, Madison, Wisconsin were the consignors.

     Selling for $5900 was Lot # 7, RMW Pecos Annabelle-ET, classified Very Good 86 at 3 years, and with a record at 2-04 305 31090 milk 1198 butterfat 950 protein. She has an Erdman son at Taurus and there was more contract interest. She is sired by Jeweled-Acres Pecos CRI-ET and from an Excellent 92 Goldwyn dam. She sold to Pete Spike, Delaware, Ohio, and was consigned by Aaron Steiner, Marshallville, Ohio.

     Lot # 41 Lo-Pine Atlantic Chava sold for $5300 to Spring Walk Farm, Big Prairie, Ohio, and was consigned by Matthew Steiner, Marshallville, Ohio. Milking 114 pounds a day, she was sired by Maple-Downs-I GW Atlantic-ET from an Excellent 90 Dam with a long string of records and 193,160 pounds of milk lifetime.

     Selling for $4400 was Lot # 56, Golden Briar Atwood Reba, Classified Good Plus 83 with a Very Good Mammary at 2 years, she was milking 100 pounds a day. She was purchased by Tom McDonnell, Lakeville, Ohio and consigned by Golden Briar Farm, Wooster, Ohio.

     Lot # 78 Cityview Gold Amber, classified Very Good 86 at 2 years, sired by Braedale Goldwyn from a Very Good 87 Dundee dam, sold for $4200 to Bryce Sanor, North Georgetown, Ohio. She was consigned by Kevin Doeberiener and Michael Heath, West Salem, Ohio.

      $4200 was also the price paid for Lot # 20, Broad-Vue WB Glwyn Dabbie, a bred heifer due in June to Aftershock. Sired by Gillette Windbrook, her dam is Very Good 87 by Goldwyn and her pedigree traced back to Snow-N-Denises Dellia Excellent 95. She was purchased by Paul Harris, Chagrin Falls, Ohio and was consigned by Steve Gilbert, Wooster, Ohio.

     Budjon-JK Destry Eternal-ET, a Very Good Destry daughter due soon to Fradon Redliner, sold for $4100 to Aaron Schlauch, Big Prairie, Ohio. Her dam is an Excellent 94 Marcrest Encore daughter and she is from seven generations of Excellent dams. She was consigned by Kevin Spreng, Brenda Eberly, and Ryan Welch, Shreve, Ohio. Six more consignments sold from $3000 to $3600 each. 

     Auctioneer was Steve Andrews, Wooster, Ohio, who was presented the Ohio Holstein Association Distinguished Service Award prior to the start of the sale. Ted Renner, Dalton, Ohio read the pedigrees. Ringmen were Ken Janes, Randall Kiko, Ken Brown, Steve Deam, and Paul Haskins. Cattle preparation was handled by Steven Jordan and his crew. The sale was managed by the Ohio Holstein Association.
