KENNETH E. KNOOP, 94, of 20601 St. Rt. 706 passed away at 5:30 PM Friday, September 12, 2014 at 5:30 PM at his residence. He was born on May 24, 1920 in Salem Township, in Shelby County, the son of the late Clifford and Jessie (Weber) Knoop. On June 29, 1941 he was married to Mary Grace Evans, who preceded him in death on September 10, 2005.
Four daughters survive; Jane Ellen (Bernard) Brautigam of Sidney, Lois Ann (William) Heintz of Belle Center, Donna Sue (John) Greiwe of Sidney, and Linda Jo (Douglas) Hague of Covington, twelve grandchildren; Mitchell (Lisa) Brautigam of Sidney, Samuel (Katie) Brautigam of New Bremen, Joshua (Tricia) Brautigam of Sidney, Andrew (Angela) Brautigam of Sidney, (Douglas) Angela Heintz Rutan of Bellefontaine, (Scott) Shelia Heintz Ebbrecht of Westerville, Christopher (Michelle) Heintz of Lakeview, Jeromy (Season) Greiwe of Quincy, (Jason) Gretchen Greiwe Hageman of Sidney, Brock (Alicia) Fields of Covington, Alexander (Whitney) Hague of Vandalia and Jared Hague of Vandalia, and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lisa Ann Heintz, and one sister, Wilma Constance Sailor.
Kenny was a lifetime farmer. He was a 33 year Senior Fair Board member and instrumental in starting the Gallon of Milk Program. He was also a premier Jersey Cattle Breeder, selling several "Elsie" cows to Borden's Inc. Kenny was recognized for his efforts by his induction into the Ohio State Fair Hall of Fame, Shelby County 4-H Hall of Fame, and as Outstanding Fair Supporter recognized by the Ohio Fair Board Association.
In 1990 Kenny was awarded the Ohio Pioneer Service Award from the Ohio Jersey Breeders Association. He is also a member of Stokes Lodge #305, F&AM past master 1964, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine of Dayton, Order of the Eastern Star, Shelby County 32nd club of Scottish Rite, Shelby County Shrine, Honorary Fairlawn Chapter Farmer, honorary member of the Shelby County Clerks and Trustee Association, Fairlawn Local School Hall of Fame, and lifetime member of Greenwood United Church of Christ in Plattsville.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., with Pastor Larry Grunden officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 3 to 8 PM. A Memorial Service held by the Stokes Masonic Lodge and an Eastern Star Service will be held at 7:45 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Stokes Lodge #305 of Port Jefferson in memory of Kenneth E. Knoop. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
