Seminar to Focus on Raising Quality Dairy Heifers
The University of Wisconsin-Extension Dairy Team will be hosting the 'Raising Quality Dairy Heifers' seminar this month in two separate locations. The forums will be held February 16 at Liberty Hall in Kimberly and February 23 at the Clarion Hotel in Eau Claire. Both programs will take place between 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Organizers say the program will focus on dairy heifer replacement management. Heifer growers, producers and industry professionals will learn the latest information about heifer genomics, managing feed costs and the veterinary feed directive.
Featured presenters include retired UW-Extension dairy specialist and current Vita Plus Dairy Technical Specialist Pat Hoffman on Current Views of Heifer Genomics; UW-Extension Heifer Management Specialist Matt Akins on Update on Heifer Feed Costs; and Zoetis Senior Dairy Veterinarian Dick Wallace on Who's Driving the VFD & How We Got Here and Juggling VFD and Existing Management. A panel discussion will conclude the seminar with a focus on how producer/grower, feed mill and veterinarian are addressing the veterinary feed directive.
The registration fee is $35 per person and includes meals, breaks and materials for the meeting.
