The very first bill signed into law by Gov. Scott Walker this
year will help subsidize construction of a new cheese plant for Masters Gallery
Foods in Oostburg. On Thursday, the governor signed Senate Bill 1, which allows
the village to create a new TIF district to help the facility expand operations
and add new jobs in the area.
"This bill is good news for the Oostburg community and our state,"
Walker said. "With this new TIF district, we are helping Masters Gallery
Foods create 120 new jobs within the next three years and a new multimillion
dollar facility."
As part of current law, the creation of TIF districts is not allowed if more
than 12 percent of the total taxable property value of a local governing unit
is part of the district. The new measure increases the total to 15 percent as a
special exception for the village.
The $30 million expansion project will help grow the company's packaging and
distribution efforts in order to sell more cheese.
