The Jersey Canada annual meeting and Atlantic Canada farm tour is just around the corner. Jersey Canada is here to bring the dairy community together and connect you with ‘like-minded’ individuals Maritime style. 

Whether you wish to exchange ideas, learn, celebrate your Jerseys or have some fun - this event offers all of this and more. Although you have to be a member to vote, anyone can attend. CLICK HERE for registration details 

Notice of Jersey Canada Annual General Meeting - Saturday, April 8, 2017 - Saint John, New Brunswick

All members and industry partners of Jersey Canada are cordially invited to attend the upcoming Annual General Meeting of Jersey Canada on Saturday, April 8, 2017.  National President Brian Raymer, along with Jersey Atlantic welcome you to Saint John, New Brunswick for a celebration of the Jersey Cow in Canada!

Weekend events will include:

- Thursday, April 6, 2017 – Tour Jersey farms in Nova Scotia (optional);

- Friday, April 7, 2017 – Tour Jersey farms in New Brunswick, Visit Huntsman Ocean Sciences, and a Maritime Kitchen Party;

- Saturday, April 8, 2017 – Annual General Meeting, President’s Luncheon, and Awards Banquet. 

Resolutions for consideration of the membership at the annual meeting may be forwarded to the Jersey Canada office to arrive no later than Monday, April 3, 2017.    Alternatively written resolutions may be handed to the Resolutions Chairman, Tim Sargent, before 8:00 am, Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the meeting headquarters.

The objectives of the meeting will be to:

- Review the financial statements of the Association;

- Receive reports from the Board of Directors, committees and staff;

- Address any proposed amendments to the by-laws; and

- Address any business that comes before the meeting.

THURSDAY APRIL 6TH - FARM TOUR IN NOVA SCOTIA

1. Musqie Valley Farms Ltd. (Prefix: Musqie), RR#5, Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia

Owners: John W & Gwen Dillman and Reg, Melissa, Kaden & Tate Dillman

Musqie Valley will feature a mixed dairy herd of 35% Jersey, 60% Holstein, 5% Ayrshire and one Brown Swiss in their tie stall barn. Many Musqie Iatola Martha family members can be seen along with Jerseys from Enniskillen and Norval Acres. Musqie focuses on a balance breeding program using Premier, Matt, Joel, and Ladd sires. Current heifers are sired by Colton, Premier, Matt, Gameday, Sultan, Milad P. The Dillmans are proud to have All Canadian nominations in all three breeds over the past 10 years.

2. Wynt Farm Ltd. (Prefix: Wynt), 10032 Hwy 224, Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia

Owners: Dave, Helena and Kyley Cole

Wynt farm was established in 2010 with 12 Holsteins and 16 Jerseys. They currently milk 12 Holsteins and 34 Jerseys. The herd thrives in a free-stall environment and milks in a double-four parlour. Select's sires make up most of the recent bull list with some Joel and Ladd also used. The goal at Wynt is to increase milk and maintain components with solid confirmation - a strong foundation for the next generation to build on.  

3. Pine Haven Farm Ltd. (Prefix: Pine Haven), PO Box 9, Oxford, Nova Scotia

Owners: RJ & Jennifer Dillman

Pinehaven farm is a Master Breeder herd, home of Pine Haven SSM Marmie EX 94-2E and Pine Haven Senior EX-90. The farm is currently milking 55 cows in a head-to-head tie stall. Goldust Karbala Ladd will be the featured bull on this tour as Pine Haven exhibits several of his milking daughters. In 2015 Pine Haven reached #6 on the Nova Scotia All Breeds list for milk production with an average BCA of 270. Herd includes 6-MEx, 3-Ex, 30-VG, 19-GP.

FRIDAY APRIL 7TH - FARM TOUR IN NEW BRUNSWICK

1. Samorah Farms (Jersey Prefix: Mayflower), 43 Taylor Road, Newtown, New Brunswick

Owners: Sam & Debbie Freeze, Frances Freeze, Lisa Freeze & Brent Dunfield

View a modern tie stall facility filled with a colourful herd that is built on type and longevity. Samorah Farms milks over 50 purebred cows, with the majority of the herd consisting of black and red Holsteins. In recent years, Jerseys, Guernseys and a Milking Shorthorn have been added to the herd. Frances purchased her first Jerseys in 2009 and today, she now has 16 animals, with 10 under the Mayflower prefix. Her breeding focuses on continued type and more production.

2. JayRon Farm Ltd. (Prefix: Parkhe Breigh), 20 MacLeod Road, Tower Hill, New Brunswick

Owners: Jamie MacLeod & Rhonda Hulan

JayRon is a fifth generation operation milking 55 Jerseys with a robot. Since Jamie and Rhonda have taken over the farm the focus is on building cow families using genomics, Valacta and classification, to assist with management decisions. A variety of bulls are used ranging from young sires to proven, and sexed semen if available.

3. Huntsman Ocean Sciences

Located in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, this research and science-based teaching institution will talk about how we connect to the oceans resources as well as provide a presentation on fish farming.

4. Dinner & Evening Event: Maritime Kitchen Party! Network with members and meet industry partners.

SATURDAY APRIL 8TH - JERSEY CANADA AGM, PRESIDENTS LUNCHEON, AWARDS AND BANQUET

Spend a day with Jersey Canada and learn about the progress of the Jersey breed and our association. It's also a great time to meet the Board of Directors, committee members and staff.

Anyone can attend the Annual General Meeting but only Jersey Canada members can vote. (For members: voting privileges ensure you have a voice, and ultimately your membership says you support the breed, care about its future and can make a difference).
