The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association is holding its U.S.
Championship Cheese Contest at Lambeau Field next year. The March 5-7, 2019
competition will be held in the stadium's atrium, where over 1,700 cheese
samples are expected to be judged by a team of professionals. Over three days,
experts will examine, sniff and taste more than 30,000 pounds of cheese and
butter.
"The contest has steadily grown, with especially
enthusiastic participation over the past decade, as cheesemakers and
distributors have witnessed the marketing potential of a gold, silver, or
bronze medal win," said Events Manager Kirsten Strohmenger.
Interested cheesemakers are encouraged to enter the
compeition by calling 608-286-1001.
The United States Championship Cheese Contest is free and
open to the public. In addition to watching these tasting experts in action,
visitors to Lambeau Field can taste gold medal cheese varieties from the most
recent contest.
The group has been hosting the contest every other year
since 1891.
