Holstein Association USA Launches Holstein Marketplace Sires

BRATTLEBORO, Vt.,  – Holstein Association USA announces a new service to assist Holstein breeders to market semen to other dairy cattle breeders. Holstein Marketplace Sires – a new component of the Holstein Marketplace gives Holstein breeders the ability to directly market semen from their bulls, which will be beneficial to Holstein Association members, and dairy cattle breeders throughout the United States.

“Holstein breeder/members have been looking for a vehicle to market semen of high-quality genetics from their own herds to other breeders. Holstein Marketplace Sires does just that.

“Holstein members now have the opportunity to offer semen from bulls out of deep pedigreed cow families that excel in production, genomics, health traits, reproduction, and type. Breeders will have the opportunity to select from phenotypically proven cow families that emphasize longevity and continue breeding programs to fit their own individual goals,” states Holstein Association USA President Boyd Schaufelberger.

Holstein Marketplace Sires, a division of Holstein Services Inc., provides a new and unique avenue for Holstein breeders to market their genetics. Under the program, the bull owners retain ownership of the bulls, and Holstein Marketplace Sires provides the vehicle for the semen to be sold.

For both buyers and sellers alike, Holstein Marketplace Sires will be a trusted source for dairy cattle genetics. Bulls available at the launch of Holstein Marketplace Sires include:
-        Speek-NJ of Dewgood-ET, owned by E. Dean & Wanda Good, Oconto, Wis.
-        Golden-Oaks Imax Lotto, owned by Golden Oaks Farm, Wauconda, Ill.
-        Hurtgenlea Splnd Maurice-ET RC PC, owned by Hurtgenlea Holsteins Ltd, Elkhorn, Wis.
-        Trent-Way-JS Roddy-ET RC, owned by Trent J. Hendrickson & John R. Schneller, Blanchardville, Wis.

These bulls offer depth of maternal pedigrees, featuring multiple generations of Very Good and Excellent dams. Their strong pedigrees are complemented with the bulls’ high-ranking genomic evaluations resulting in a balance of production, health, reproduction and type. Holstein Marketplace Sires will be a unique addition to any Holstein breeders breeding program.

I agree with Chuck. Capper-Volstead has out lived its usefulness. These 'co-ops' are turning on their members. They pay the board big bucks to be yes men. Great job Holstein ! One victory for the little guy. At least its something.

I think the leadership of Holstein should be commended for trying to help breeders market their genetics. The reality is there is far less opportunity for breeders to be able to play in the AI business. I would agree that these bulls are aggressively priced and not exceptional or unique. give this some time. They are just getting started.

Mike Hunt are you an AI rep? I have been in the AI business for over 40 years and these bulls look very good and are priced well. They are all Genomic tested, with real dams that are tested and classified The fact is Big AI ha gotten so arrogant..they think they can do whatever they want and breeders are just supposed to suck it up. they buy all the best females, thousands of them then flush them to pre-release semen and then beef the heifers because they can. We need actual info on bull dams. I'm glad Holstein USA is showing strength and helping our members.

Let AI worry about semen sales and genetics. It's their entire business model. Yes I trust Select and Semex more than most because they actually look at cattle... but this is not Holstein USA's game to play. Wish Holstein USA gave more thought to improving the value to all registered Holsteins.

Anybody that thinks that either these are great bulls, or they are offered for a fair price has never talked to an A.I. rep

Tex says lots of $10 bulls. However many are out of untested and unclassified dams and sires from the same. Of course some are not even genomic tested and they sell for more than $10

$20 a unit is not logical. Studs have hundreds of bulls with numbers just like these and cow families just like these for half the price.

One concern I see . it look like you can buy one unit plus shipping charges if you want. You see semen adv like that some time 2 units of Goldwyn or Avalanche $700 per unit..that is different. It can easily cost $100 or more in shipping charges.... thus 1 unt for $20 is not logical. 10 units should be the min. order.

Good idea I will look into it. I don't see prices listed.
