Milk Futures Lower, Cash Dairy Mixed

News that Dean Foods is filing for bankruptcy seems to have rocked traders, milk futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange closed lower Tuesday as did cheese prices.

 

November Class III milk down 12 cents at $20.04.  December down 50 cents at $18.69.  January 26 cents lower at $17.69.  February down 12 cents at $17.10.  March through June contracts seven to 10 cents lower.

 

Dry whey up $0.0075 at $0.2825.  Eleven sales were made ranging from $0.2775 to $0.2825.

 

Blocks down $0.0750 at $1.94.

 

Barrels down $0.0150 at $2.3150.

 

Butter unchanged at $2.0675.

 

Nonfat dry milk up $0.0125 at $1.2175.  Five trades were made ranging from $1.21 to $1. 22.
