U.S.-Taiwan Deal Draws Praise
WASHINGTON – Last week, Ambassador Jamieson Greer attended the signing of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade between the United States and Taiwan, under the auspices of the American Institute in Taiwan and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States. American agricultural and industrial producers will reap the benefits from the U.S.-Taiwan trade deal as Taipei reduces non-tariff barriers and 99% of tariffs on U.S. exports.

The announcement was quickly met with praise from American farmers, ranchers, and industry leaders:

National Milk Producers Federation President and CEO Gregg Doud: The agreement with Taiwan builds on the incredible momentum we’ve seen from the Administration in securing new trade agreements around the world. Each deal to reduce barriers and expand market access strengthens American dairy farms and the communities they support.

U.S. Dairy Export Council President and CEO Krysta Harden: This agreement improves our competitiveness compared to other suppliers and provides assurances that nontariff barriers will not hinder the expansion of U.S. dairy exports. USDEC looks forward to continuing work with the Taiwanese government and the domestic industry to increase dairy consumption and grow the United States’ contribution to supplying Taiwan’s fluid milk and other dairy needs.

International Dairy Foods Association President and CEO Michael Dykes: IDFA strongly supports the Administration’s actions to expand market access for U.S. dairy through these recent trade agreements. The complete elimination of dairy tariffs in Taiwan creates a major opportunity for American dairy producers and processors to compete, grow, and win in a valuable and growing market.
